OPSEC: Deploying Mesh Networks Without Burning Your Position
Mesh networks are powerful tools for off-grid communications, but careless deployment can compromise your position faster than any traditional comms.
1. ROTATE PSK CHANNELS: Never use default channel keys. Generate fresh PSK with `--ch-set psk random` before every operation. Document keys offline only.
2. POWER LEVELS MATTER: LoRa at +20 dBm is detectable kilometers away. Drop to +10 dBm or lower for short-range tactical comms. Range vs detectability is always a tradeoff.
3. NODE PLACEMENT: Don't place nodes on rooftops you'll need to recover. Treat solar relays (M0M0-Phantom) as expendable assets.
4. SILENT MODE: Configure devices to suppress beacon advertisements when not transmitting. Default Meshtastic broadcasts are loud.
5. SANITIZATION: After ops, factory reset all devices. Wipe SD cards. Treat hardware as potentially compromised.
